Where was I brought up?
I was born in Tokoroa but spent the bulk of my child hood living on a small life-style farm just out of Rotorua.
What was I doing before I joined Cardinal Solutions?
LBC (life before cardinal)…seems a long time ago! Before Ant and I launched the business I was employed by Foodstuffs Auckland Ltd to manage their Private Training Establishment; prior to that I had an 11 year career as an officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy. As with most military careers I found myself in numerous roles in the Navy, but my longest, and most enjoyable, was the stint I spent as 2I/C of the Navy’s school of excellence for leadership development where I oversaw the promotion courses that ultimately determined if non-commissioned officers were fit to hold the next rank.
Why do I work with Cardinal Solutions?
Why did I partner with Ant to begin Cardinal Solutions? Two reasons really:
-
I discovered that there existed a shortage of trainers that could deliver information in a way that was both fun but also inspired people to take action (the opportunity for a business).
-
My first child was born and in that special moment I realized I wanted to have control over my time so I could be the kind of dad I wanted to be (the motivation to start the business).
Seven years on I remain passionate about helping people to be successful in life.
What do I do at Cardinal Solutions?
Ant and I share the managerial and leadership functions in the business by way of various portfolios. The two main portfolios that fall to me are:
-
the design, development and continuous improvement of Cardinal’s products; and
-
the quality control of the Cardinal Experience
What do I do when not working?
If I am not being entertained or kept busy by my young daughter and son then I enjoy taking full advantage of the recreational activities that surround my home town of Rotorua – whether that’s water-skiing, mountain biking or a less energetic activity with friends and family. 18 months ago I decided to do something I always wanted to try which was to learn a musical instrument – so at the moment I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge of learning the acoustic guitar!
